OBIT: 11/14/1981, Mrs. Grace Carter: Mrs. Grace Wolfe Carter, 73, of Woodbridge and a former resident of Covington, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Marianne De Conti, Thursday evening. She was the widow of Delmas D. Carter who preceded her in death in 1960. Born June 23, 1908 at Columbia Sulphur Springs, Greenbrier County, WV, she was the daughter of the later Lawrence Perry Wolfe and Ida Sue Clark Wolfe. She was reared in Covington where she made her home until 1958 when she moved to the Falls Church area. She was a member of Covington Baptist Church where she was church organist from 1930 to 1942 and taught in public schools at Dunlap High School, Jeter School, Covington High School and McLean High School. She was also the church organist at the Chesterbrook United Methodist Church at McLean for several years and was a charter member of the Covington Junior Woman’s Club. Other than her daughter, she is survived by three sons, David Lawrence Carter, Gaithersburg, MD, James Lynn Carter, Silver Springs, MD and Patrick Lee Carter, Stockton, Calif., a sister, Miss Mary Helen Wolfe, Covington, and seven grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with the Rev. Marvin Jacobs officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Wolfe, Harry Miller OBIT: Harry Wolfe, Harry Miller Wolfe, 45, of Route 2, Covington, died in Alleghany Regional Hospital late Wednesday evening following an extended illness. He was the husband of Sylvia Jackson Wolfe. Born March 25, 1937, in Alleghany County, he was the son of the late Ira A. Wolfe and Ruthie Jamison Wolfe. He had been a resident of this community most of his life. He attended Cliff Dale Christian Church, had been disabled for several years and had worked at the John B. Salterini Company until it closed. He then worked for Alleghany County School System and Westvaco. He had also served in the U. S. Navy. Other than his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Earl (Brenda) Hall, Jr., Covington, and Miss Elizabeth Wolfe, at home; five sons, Harry Wolfe, Jr., Bruce A. Wolfe, Vernon E. Wolfe, Harvey J. Wolfe and Ivan M. Wolfe, all at home; two brothers, Luther R. Wolfe, Route 2, Covington, and James A. Wolfe, Burr Oak, Michigan; three sisters, Mrs. Donald (Virginia) Lewis, Harrisonburg, Mrs. Wallace (Bessie) Humphries, Route 2, Covington, and Mrs. Violet Humphries, Sturgis, Michigan; and three grandsons. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Wolfe and Junior A. Wolfe. The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of the Loving Funeral Home with the Rev. Monday March 31, 1986: Harry Wolfe of 328 Gordon Street, Covington, was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital Saturday afternoon by Lifeguard Ten Helicopter following an accident on Rockbridge Street around 12 noon. Wolfe, who was later transferred from Roanoke Memorial Hospital to University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, was listed this morning in critical but stable condition with internal injuries. According to Covington Police Sgt. K. R. Lane, Wolfe had been plowing a garden when the Ford tractor turned over pinning him underneath. The Covington Rescue Squad was called at 12:05 p.m. and called for Lifeguard Ten which left Roanoke by 12;28 p.m. and landed at the ball field at the city reservoir on Pocahontas Street within 25 minutes at 12:53 p.m. Wolfe was transported from the scene to the helicopter by members of the Covington Rescue Squad.
Wolfe, Harry Richard OBIT: July 11, 1986, Harry Wolfe: Harry Richard Wolfe, 70, of 328 Gordon Street, died Thursday evening in the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville. He was born March 26, 1916 in Alleghany County, son of the late Denver Ottoway Wolfe and Evie Terry Wolfe. He was a retired body man. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Scott Wolfe, in 1957 and by two brothers and three sisters. Survivors include a son, Donald W. OBIT: Lacy Day Wolfe, 68, of 307 Broken Arrow Lane, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at his residence. He was the husband of Shirley Cash Wolfe. Mr. Wolfe was born June 03, 1933, In Covington, a son of the late Lacy Marshall and Sadie Crawford Wolfe. He was a graduate of Covington High School and DeVry Technical College in Chicago, Ill. Mr. Wolfe served two years with the U. S. Army. He was employed by Grumman Aircraft of Bethpage, N.Y. and contracted to Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Fla. during the Apollo Space Program. Mr. Wolfe went to work at Westvaco’s Covington Research Dept. in March 1973 and retired June 1998 after 25 years of faithful service. He was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church for 26 years and served as choir director and Sunday School Teacher. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He also enjoyed reading and was a collector of old recipes. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Barbara Wolfe of Covington; a daughter, Cheryl A. Wolfe of Roanoke; a beloved granddaughter, Olivia H. Wolfe; a brother and sister-in-law, Terry Wayne and Linda Wolfe of Smith Mountain Lake; a sister and brother-in-law, Lenora and Boone Hall of Lynchburg; a uncle, Warner Crawford; three aunts, Delina Harrelson, Thelma Crawford and Helen Crawford; a special cousin Curtis Helms of New Castle and numerous nieces and nephews. Wolfe, Lawrence A. OBIT: 9/8/1987, Former Fire Chief Dies: Lawrence A. Wolfe, Sr., former Chief of the Covington Fire Department and a 39 year veteran of the organization died Sunday at his home on Alleghany Avenue. He was 83. A former Superintendent of the Covington Public Works Department, Mr. Wolfe joined the Covington Fire Department in 1933 and also served on the Covington First Aid and Life Saving Crew which was organized that year. He served on the rescue squad for 20 years. He was elected chief of the fire department in 1945 and served one year –incomplete
Wolfe, Lawrence A. Jr OBIT: 1 Oct 1990: Lawrence A. “Bud” Wolfe, Jr. 61, died Saturday at his home in Durham, NC. Mr. Wolfe was born April 14, 1929 in Covington, the son of the late Lawrence A and Thelma Dickson Wolfe. He attended Covington Schools and was graduated from Virginia Polytechnic and State University. For the past 26 years he had made his home in Durham, N.C. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Hill Wolfe, a Covington native, of Durham; two sons, Lawrence Wolfe III and Steven Wolfe, both of Durham; two grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Ralph (Dorothy) Mosly of Baltimore, Md. and Mrs. Nadine Lockhart of Covington. The body was cremated and a memorial service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James A. Rohne officiating.
Wolfe, Lawrence Davis OBIT: Lawrence Davis Wolfe 76, of Route 4, Covington, died Sunday at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Wolfe was born July 17, 1912, in Alleghany County, the son of the late Hezekiah F. Wolfe and Elizabeth Betty Fridley Wolfe. He was an employee of the former Industrial Rayon Corp. in Covington for 26 years. Mr.Wolfe was a member of the Parrish Court United Methodist Church and served as a rural route carrier for the Covington Virginia in the Potts Creek-Rich Patch area for over 20 years. He also carried the Roanoke Times in the same area for a number of years. Surviving are his wife, Marie Tingler Wolfe of Route 4, Covington; one son, Lawrence David Wolfe, Jr. of Route 4, Covington; two daughters, Miss Kay Wolfe of Covington and Mrs. Norman (Janet) McAllister of Columbus, Ohio; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a twin sister and also by two brothers. A funeral service will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. William M. Harris, Jr. officiating, assisted by the Rev. Paul C. Harris. Interment will be made at the Alleghany Memorial Park. 2 Jun 1992-Possible Suicide Investigated: Investigator Dale Muterspaugh of the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Department said this morning that the early Monday morning death of Lillian Blanche Wolfe Redman, 35, of Route 4, is being investigated as a possible suicide. Ms. Redman was found dead in a bedroom at the residence by her husband, Luther Redman, and the sheriff’s department was called to the scene at 12:43 a.m. Monday. The sheriff’s department has a note presumed to have been written by Ms. Redman. Deputy Sheriffs Greg Crowder and D. E. Paxton answered the call to the scene. Muterspaugh said no foul play is suspected. The body was sent to Roanoke for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. The investigation is continuing pending the report of the medical examiner on the autopsy results. The autopsy was to be performed today.

Born February 6, 1924 in Alleghany County, he was the son of the late Charles Edward Wolfe and Amber Arritt Wolfe. He retired in 1984 from the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Board after 32 years of service. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II, was a member of Covington Post No. 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Boiling Springs Ruritan Club and a retired member and treasurer of the Boiling Springs Fire Department. Smith Post No. 1033, Veterans of Foreign Wars and a former member of Boiling Springs Ruritan Club. Mr. Wolfe was also a member of Highland Chapel Christian Church where he served as a deacon.
